Malaysian visa

For visits under 90 days, citizens of EU- member states, including Bulgaria, do not need a visa. If you’re from these countries you will still need an international passport, valid for minimum of 6 months on the date of entry and a MDAC.

MDAC

Introduced on January 1, 2024, it replaces the traditional paper arrival card.

All passengers are required to apply for their MDAC card 3 days before arriving in Malaysia, except: those transiting through Singapore; permanent residents of Malaysia; Malaysian Automated Clearance System (MACS) holders; holders of diplomatic and official passports. Even if you’re not sure whether you need a MDAC or not, it’s best to submit one. MDAC is individual for every person. Children also need MDAC.

All applicants should apply for their MDAC on the official website designated for this purpose, where the application for the card is free. Do not fill out your personal details on unofficial sites, which may be fraudulent and charge fees!

Visa card for over 90 days

For Bulgarian citizens, visas are required for trips over 90 days.

If your trip exceeds 90 days, it is most likely that you need to submit the visa in-person.

Please contact the Honorary Consulate in Bulgaria or the Malaysian Embassy in Romania for further information.

MM2H

The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) visa, introduced by the Malaysian government, allows non-Malaysians to reside in Malaysia for an extended period. Over the years, the visa has been a popular choice for expatriates and retirees. However, significant updates were introduced in 2024, reshaping the program’s eligibility criteria and structure.

Each tier comes with specific financial requirements, participation fees, and other conditions that applicants must meet. Additionally, all applications must now be submitted exclusively through approved MM2H agents, who are required to undergo a re-licensing process under the new regulations.

Residences
  • Permanent Residence

Getting Permanent Residency in Malaysia is possible through the Malaysian Entry Permit. The Malaysian government issues an Entry Permit (Malaysia PR) to certain categories of foreign nationals including, but not limited to: investors, foreign nationals married to Malaysian citizens, world-class talented experts recognized internationally, etc.

If you receive Malaysia permanent residency, you will get an Entry Permit and Identification Card (MyPR). This allows you to live, work, and enjoy long-term benefits in Malaysia without the need for visa renewals.

  • Residence Pass- Talent (RP-T)

The Malaysia Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T) is a premium 10-year renewable visa introduced by TalentCorp in April 2011 together with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM).

Unlike traditional work permits, the RP-T offers highly skilled expatriate talent the freedom to work and live in Malaysia without being tied to a specific employer. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for senior professionals, executives, and experts who want to contribute to Malaysia’s economy on a longer-term basis.

All foreigners who wish to pursue their education in any level of education in Malaysia are required to apply for a Student Pass from the Department of Immigration Malaysia.

All foreign students in Higher Education Institutions (HEI) with approved Visa Approval Letter (VAL) have to obtain Visa with Reference (VDR) from Malaysia Representative Offices overseas before entering Malaysia.

Students from Bulgaria are permitted to enter without a Visa with Reference (VDR) because of the absence of a Malaysian representative office. HOWEVER, students MUST provide approval letter and get Visa On Arrival (VOA) at the point of entry.
